The Municipal indoor pool of Xàbia will become a reality

The Generalitat Valenciana approved its budgets for 2018, including an amount of 1.5 million euros for the construction of a municipal indoor pool in Xàbia. It resulted from an amendment presented by the PSOE and Compromís, supported by Podem, with the PP abstention.
The current regional government thus meets one of the most historic demands of the municipality, which has insisted for more than a decade that the Ministry fulfilled the agreement signed on May 23rd, 2005 whereby it was agreed that Xàbia Town Hall would construct a court for trinquet valenciana in exchange for the Generalitat financing an indoor pool.
Since he became Mayor of Xàbia, José Chulvi has constantly reminded the Generalitat of this outstanding commitment. He continued to present the claim with the current President, Ximo Puig, who gave his word, acknowledging the debt that the previous PP government had left pending with Xàbia.
This commitment was reflected in a resolution which the Minister of Finance, Vicent Soler, signed on November 24th which recognized the validity of the old agreement between Xàbia and the Generalitat, making it clear that the economic obligations that the Consell has finally recognized will be financed in the budget for 2018.
The document has had a rapid result as a subsidy of 1.5 million euros has been reserved in the general accounts for next year, amounting to around half the total cost of the pool.
The mayor of Xàbia, José Chulvi, has shown great satisfaction at having managed, at last, to unblock this issue that had been bogged down for more than a decade and which many people had actually considered as a lost cause. The mayor expressed the outcome as a great joy for him to be able to close this administratively complicated year with the very positive news that the municipal swimming pool is closer to becoming a reality.
The mayor explained that the local government has been working for months on all the procedures, prior to the unblocking of the pool project, but has preferred to proceed discretely, aware that many false expectations had already been raised on this topic.
Now, with a commitment in writing, and the economic approval, it is time to inform the public that several technical meetings have already been held to process the sports project. In the last meeting, held this week, the Councillors for Sports, Vicent Colomer, and City Projects, Paco Torres, put forward an updated plan for the pool, which is planned as a modern facility suiting the needs of the population; with a 25 metre pool with 8 lanes, and another 16 metre pool for complementary activities, as well as a multi-purpose room of about 200m2 for gym activities and physical maintenance, explained Colomer.
From the initial project (which amounted to 6 million euros) the underground carpark (for only 20 cars) has been eliminated together with other unnecessary areas and spaces which had raised the cost of construction and maintenance. Also to reduce maintenance costs, connectivity with the Palau d’Esports and energy efficiency measures are being studied. Now the project is estimated to be able to proceed with a budget of 3 million euros.
