The Councillor for Equality, Montse Villaverde, has unveiled a new Council project which will work with young people with respect to sexual affective diversity. This is a workshop for students of 4º de la ESO y 2ª de FP Básica that have started today in high school No. 1 of Javea.
Villaverde has stated that it is a reality that gay students, transsexual lesbians and bisexuals exist, as well as children of single sex families. That is why the Administration is required to develop programs to achieve an equal and mature society in which everyone can “live freely and express the identity of their own gender and sexual orientation without fear”.
Because, said the councillor, “many students have their sexuality called into question and have doubts about their orientation” but because in our society, heterosexuality is the default “sexual minorities suffer from invisibility that makes young people develop prejudices and misconceptions “.
Moreover, the councillor said that while adolescence is the time when heterosexual adolescents “learn to socialise,” those who are not ” learn to hide”
Therefore, the workshops led by Carmen Ivars,of La Naturadora seek to openly discuss this issue with young people, talking about sexuality, the importance of being able to show who you are and, most importantly, to respect those who do. In these sessions work has begun to address in people who desire start to show their feelings, the different ways of expressing sexuality and how to take action in defense of the right to have a different sexuality.
Instituto No.1 Xàbia, is the first centre developing this workshop, the vicedirector, Javier Llorca, said that when the department of Equality approached them with this proposal, they did not hesitate, because “we have always worked on projects of awareness and because we are convinced that teenagers are eager to talk about sexuality. ”
